Christmas card making in early November, that's strange and just so not me right? Well don't panic I'm not that organised with my own Christmas preparations.
You would of seen many posts if your a regular reader about my work with Sewing for Charity Australia, these cards are all part of our current project.
We are putting together gifts for two different organisations this year and it was decided to add a handmade card to each of them.
I put my hand up to make some, I'm not much help with the sewing of bags and such my card making is perfect for me.
These are mini cards, just a little something we can write a short message in to let them know someone is thinking of them.
I had a handful of Christmas embellishments that I used on some of the cards, the rest I used my Christmas stamps and some watercolours. Nice and simple yet look great.
Keep checking back there will be more Christmas themed projects coming soon.

Crochet book closures
I crocheted a chain long enough (with a little give) to go around the address books, and then with a little fiddling was able to make the flower without having to fasten and start again. Flowers for the ladies and some plain circles for the gentlemen all finished of by tying a button to the centre.
At this stage the books haven't been covered so not able to show how they look finished but as soon as they are I will pop back in with a photo.

Crochet bookmarks
All those readers out there will know the importance of a bookmark, I hate the idea of dog earring pages and the damage it does to books. Total personal choice and if anyone does that to their own books then its all good. That's why bookmarks are a must for me, I've tried having paper ones and either lose them or they fall apart easily.
I started making crochet ones awhile ago and they have been the only ones that I don't seem to loose and they definitely last the distance. They also dry easily if you drop them in the bath whilst having that relaxing soak. There are so many cute and pretty patterns you can get access to or if your clever enough design your own.
I have been making a heap up for the charity group I belong to, they will be added to our reading pillow gifts.
Below you will see the three designs Ive chosen along with the links for patterns.
All are made with an 8ply acrylic yarn, just scraps that I had lying around, they don't use up hardly any yarn at all.

Are you a reader, what do you use as a bookmark? If you have any cool ideas let me know in the comments below.

Sewing for Charity Australia - Setpember/October projects
The beginning of a new month brings new projects for Sewing for Charity Australia. Whilst the preemie items from the last project are currently being sorted and packed ready for delivery, all our lovely ladies are starting on our new items.
The group is supporting and donating to a few organisations for this next project, Sundale Rod Voller care Centre, Golden Carers, Cancer Council Australia and Gold Coast Community Christmas Lunch.
Our ladies have already been busy creating amazing items for these groups as you can see by the awesome twiddle mats in the picture below.
If you would like to help out in anyway, by helping to make things or just by donating items or products that can be used to create, we would be extremely appreciative. Just leave me a message or email me and I will help you out with details.
You can check out our amazing group and more details about our current project on our facebook page here.
Every little bit of help goes along way.

Creating for Charity
We are nearing the end of the month and that means that our preemie projects for Sewing for Charity Australia is coming to an end. We will start new projects at the beginning of next month. I wanted to share with you some of the amazing work created by a very talented bunch of ladies over the last couple of months.
They have been hard at work creating lots and lots of preemie items that will be delivered to a variety of organizations that desperately need them.
I would love to mention all the ladies individually but there are so many of them, so head over to the facebook group and you can see all their work plus lots more.

Sewwing for Charity (Australia)
Recently I joined with a lovely bunch of ladies who volunteer for charity, they collaborate to donate items to many different charities every month.
The head honcho Cass explains it like this....
The purpose of this group is to collaborate together to sew and donate requested items to our chosen charities and community organisations in Australia.
You can help by gathering/ donating fabric or by sewing or both!
Volunteers can come from anywhere as fabric can be posted, and we have sewing groups popping up in different areas. If you would like to join or start one email us volunteer@sewingforcharity.com or message us via facebook .
Any fabric donated should be clean, smoke free and suitable to make items such as bags, pillowcases, play mats, clothing, patchwork blankets and other items.
Now you may be thinking "but your crochet not sew" and you would be correct but whilst the group is mainly filled with sewer's they do take crochet and knit items as well. I have been living next door to Cass for over a year before I found out all about her group, wish Id found out sooner.
July and August we are working on preemie items for a few different organisations but this changes every month or so.
If you would like more information about this group or you would like to help or donate then leave me a comment and I will contact you or email me. Alternatively you can check out the group on Facebook and email Cass for all the info you will need.

Crochet for Charity
For all those who crochet or knit we all have this one little thing in common, there is always lots and lots of leftover scraps of yarn. Sometimes its enough to make something small with, maybe tiny flowers to add as embellishments or even make a scrap yarn blanket or cushion cover.
Ive done all the above in the past as well as used some in my weaving. I have donated scraps to kindys and friends who home base care - they love donations.
Cleaning out my baby yarn a few weeks back I realised just how much I had left over. I though about doing a multi colour baby blanket but soon realised that the plys were not all the same so that idea wouldn't work. It was after chatting with a football mum that a new idea came to me.
This mum is a nurse in a NICU at a local hospital, and I figured there would be enough of the various yarns to make some preemie beanies. I did some quick research into sizing's for preemie babies heads and collected all the leftover yarn and some hooks and got busy.
It took me a few days but I was so happy with the 15 tiny little beanies that will keep precious little bubbas warm when they need it the most.
Most hospital NICU love receiving preemie beanies so I know these will be well received.
What do you do with all your leftover yarn ?
